THE SILENT PRAYER
Let sadness have its shelter
beneath closed eyes
and what is normally our wings to flight,
for those departing will respectfully report to the living
but tiny yellow flowers held in the arms of a pretty woman
will be the dignity preserved on that day
when rain thunders its last respects to the life lost
and chills the bones of the bereaved.
