Our nestled security
may be someone else’s inadequate perception
or worse yet
our accepted deception.

Excursive criticism
divulged from a heart fostered amid inequity
and uttered from lips born for deceit
will be our assailant’s nail chosen for distortion
forced through virgin flesh
and bent over to ensure the hurt.
